Chaos

I’ve been thinking a lot about the current state of our nation and what this election means. It’s very concerning considering how divided the country is. It seems we’ve turned each other into enemies by categorizing each other into groups. And if you’re part of one group you cannot be part of the group that’s considered a polar opposite. But deep down we honestly cannot believe that’s true. That’s our first mistake in leading us towards this division. The flow chart starts with political parties being at the top. Take Conservatives/Liberals for instance. Do you really think there are no gay gun owners who are devout believers in God? Of course, there are. Do you really think that there are no law enforcement members who have compassion and concern for their fellow Americans no matter their skin color? Of course, there are. If you believe that ALL Conservatives are hateful, gun toting, bible thumping racists you would be wrong. In fact, you wouldn’t be anywhere close to the truth. And if you believe ALL Liberals want a socialist nation where anything and everything is controlled by the government you would be wrong. In fact, you wouldn’t be anywhere close to the truth. We have to stop just simply accepting these exaggerations as the truth and admit that they’re just manipulations. Despite our issues throughout our history as a country, we’ve been mostly united up until now. That’s not to diminish the fact that certain citizens have had to bear the burden of injustice many times along the way.

So how did we get here? It’s simple. Chaos. Chaos forces us to choose a side. Chaos forces us to show disdain for the opposite of what we believe. Chaos prevents us from seeing reality. And reality means simply that we can’t have one without the other. The yin and yang. The balance of life. Chaos theory in mathematics is actually the belief that underneath all the confusion these opposites are interconnected and interdependent. They need each other. It’s literally the current of life. It’s the basis of capitalism and also socialism. It’s the foundation of brotherhood and sisterhood. As a race us humans have been able to accept this in many forms. Different cultures trade with each other. Different governments form alliances. It seems when it comes to money and power, we have no problem using it. But what we need to do now is use it to our benefit on a human level.

Chaos is a good thing when it’s recognized and understood. It’s a good thing when we don’t view the opposites to us as an enemy, but as a partner who brings balance to everything. You’ve heard the phrase, “Too much of a good thing,”? I truly believe that. If we all looked alike, believed alike, talked alike and thought alike would that make us better than we are? I can’t accept that, can anyone?

So first up is recognizing the chaos. And this is the hard part. Because it’s easy to confuse the symptoms of the chaos with the actual cause. Right now, I think we can all point the finger at politics. Or am I wrong?
